Remember:  Ribbon, string and tinsel (icicles) are dangers to cats as when cats start chewing on them, the cats cannot spit them out so wind up swallowing the whole length.  This can led to a blockage or cutting of the intestines!  Keep all ribbon, string and other string like items away from cats.

Lilies are toxic to cats. Cats can die from kidney damage after eating even a small amount of a lily. Keep all lilies out the house! Don't put them on a high shelf- keep them out of the house!

New page- Giant Litter Box
« on: November 08, 2011, 05:42:57 PM »

I have a new page on the wvcats.com website: Giant Litter Box at http://www.wvcats.com/giantlitterbox.html.

Thanks to Milo (one of Michelle's large cats) for being the "model" of a large cat!  :catwacko:  I love that pic for this purpose, as the box Milo is sitting on says, "LG", as in "size large".   Michelle, approximately how much does Milo weight?  If you get a chance, measure how tall he is from the floor to the top of head.  I want to include some info about his size under his pic.

I got one of those Petmate giant litter boxes for my very large Rey (Norwegian Forest Cat/Maine Coon type cat.)  He just wasn't fitting so great in what is sold as "jumbo" sized litter boxes.  He is a long, very big cat!

If anyone notices any errors on the page on my site, please let me know.

Milo weighs 16 lbs as of this morning - he's lost a pound or two in the last year.  :staff_hmm6ug:  He is 16 inches high (floor to top of head), 19 inches long butt to nose *tail not included*.

In that picture he would have been 17 to 18 lbs.

Here is another shot that might put his size into perspective:
This is a 30 can case.

Thanks, Michelle.

The pic you posted with Milo on the case of beer does show his size in perspective, but, I prefer not show alcohol, not even beer.

Ok, I completely understand.  I kinda thought that but figured I'd throw it out there anyway.  I'll see if I can catch another pic of him that will show his size better in the next couple days or so if I can.

Some months back I bought a large litter tray (covered) in Jollyes.  It has the advantage that the swing door lifts up & back so you don't have to dismantle it every time you scoop. Disadvantage would be a small cat as it's higher than the standards. Having said that Mindy who has always been a small kitten (but catching up fast now growth wise) insisted on clambering in and out of it - if the bigger cats could do it, she would too :). It's Jollyes own make so maybe worth looking at Jollyes?  All supposing you have Jollye's stores in the US?

Timambmin, I do not believe there are Jollyes stores in the US.  The litter tray you mentioned is likely a good one, but the one I was talking about is gigantic- 3 feet long (approximately .91 meters).  And not covered.  Giant, tall cats such as large Maine Coons don't usually like to duck down to get into a covered litter box.
